Sarah's' biography:

Though Sarah is well aware that many people do not share her innate love of Mathematics, she is convinced that anyone can enjoy studying it. She prides herself on making lessons accessible, personable and tailored to the needs of the learner and has a proven track record of enabling pupils to achieve their highest potential.

Sarah has twelve years of teaching experience in a variety of schools; state and independent, selective and comprehensive, mixed and single sex. She has taught effectively across Key Stages 2 to 5 and has worked extensively both with students who struggle with Mathematics and also those who are striving to achieve the highest grades at GCSE and A Level. She believes that developing the confidence to ‘have a go’ is paramount for success in Mathematics and she provides a safe learning environment where students feel secure enough to make mistakes and ask questions to develop their understanding.

Sarah most recently taught at an independent girls’ school in Cheshire. She taught all ages up to A Level, including a Foundation level borderline C/D grade iGCSE set, all of whom achieved a grade B or C at the end of their course. For her, the real achievement for those students wasn’t that every one of them passed their GCSE Maths, but rather that they all made comment during the course that Mathematics was no longer a subject that they dreaded, and actually they maybe even quite liked it!

As an A Level Examiner, Sarah has gained an excellent understanding of and insight into assessment and how mark schemes are applied. She uses this knowledge to help prepare her students for public examinations; providing detailed feedback to them and giving advice and tips to ensure that they pick up as many marks as possible.

In January 2018 Sarah decided to take some time out of classroom teaching whilst her children are young and is currently tutoring privately in her local area. Whilst this has undoubtedly been a positive decision from a personal point of view, she is still passionate about teaching – tutoring allows her to do the parts of the teaching job that she loves in a slightly different way.

With two young children, Sarah doesn’t have much ‘free’ time, but she does enjoy reading, attending exercise classes, playing the violin and camping with her family.
