Theory of Knowledge
Tom is a teacher of Classics at Highgate School in North London, where he has taught Latin, Greek, Classical Civilisation, and Ancient History. He has has had a range of positions of additional responsibility at the school, including running extracurricular programmes that were delivered to several hundred students. Prior to teaching at Highgate, Tom taught Classics at Sevenoaks School in Kent.
Tom has tutored students from KS3 through to GCSE and A-Level, primarily in Latin language and literature. His approach to tutoring is a highly personalised one, based on developing an understanding of the individual student’s needs and interests. He is a keen believer in the idea that tutorials should be something that students look forward to rather than a chore, and he always ensures that his tutorials are fun and engaging.
Before becoming a teacher, Tom studied for a degree in Classics from the University of Oxford, from which he graduated with First Class Honours, and a PGCE in Classics at King’s College London. He also holds an MA in Education from King’s College London, from which he graduated with a distinction.
Beyond teaching, Tom is a keen musician and regularly plays in a wedding band. He is also interested in languages and is a fluent Italian speaker.
Taught IB Latin and Greek for two years (while on teacher training and at Sevenoaks School).
